Catalina to Port
Race #3 of the PSSA 2025 Dan Byrne Series — 41nm around Catalina Island, starting off Palos Verdes and finishing at the island’s east end.
Sailing around Catalina is more tactical than it looks. Elapsed times have ranged from 4 hours to 21 hours depending on conditions — the wind shadow on the backside can be brutal or nonexistent. With a full fleet out, there’s real racing from start to finish.
Plenty of other boats participate beyond the PSSA fleet, and the party in Avalon after finishing is a good reason to sail fast.
Course: Palos Verdes 10PV → Catalina West End (port) → Catalina East End finish Distance: ~41nm Fleet: Singlehanded, Doublehanded, Crewed (max 4)
